The awards were announced at the Associated Collegiate Press Spring National College Media Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Long Beach, with students representing journalism schools from across the nation in attendance. CSUDH Professor Wins Prestigious NEH Award
CSUDH Professor of History Bianca Murillo has received a 2022 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) fellowship through the Awards for Faculty program for her next book, Financing Africa's Future: A Socio-Economic History of Ghana, 1950-1980. The highly competitive NEH faculty awards support advanced humanities research by scholars at Historically Black Colleges, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and Tribal Colleges and Universities. A total of 25 grants were awarded nationally. This is Murillo's second major project involving Ghana–her first book, Market Encounters: Consumer Cultures in Twentieth-Century Ghana was published in 2017. Staff Spotlight: Paola Carbajal-Kerr
When Paola Carbajal-Kerr says, “I'm proud to be a Toro,” she means it. The CSUDH alumna and current residential life coordinator for University Housing has been studying or working on campus for 15 years–she joined the Toro staff right after graduating from the university. “I worked in Student Affairs as an undergraduate student programmer for the Multicultural Center (now Multicultural Affairs),” she says. “I had so many great mentors at the time that I decided to join their ranks in helping to support students!” In her current position, Carbajal-Kerr leads the programmatic efforts for students living in the Residence Hall, as well as supervising the work of the student staff in the ... Student Research Day Highlights Toro Scholarship
Student Research Day (SRD), CSUDH's primary showcase of student research and scholarship, held its 17th annual competition on Feb. 16 and 17. Despite the obstacles presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a large cohort of Toro student researchers descended on Loker Student Union for the yearly event–with a smaller contingent participating virtually. Over 100 projects were presented in oral presentations or poster sessions. Of those, 28 were selected for honors at the Reception and Award Assembly that closed the event (see list below). Homecoming 2022 Brings Toro Alums Back to Campus
CSUDH celebrated Homecoming 2022 on Saturday, Feb. 19, welcoming hundreds of Toro alumni and their families back to campus for a day of fun activities, reunions, and discovery.
