“Having stories to tell is your sustenance—that’s what pushes through the breaking points.” So said screenwriter, actor, and director Lake Bell, who moderated “Women in Comedy” on Oct. 7 for an audience of students, faculty, and staff. Presented by the Women’s Studies Department and Hollywood by the Horns, the event brought prominent comedy creators and performers to CSUDH to discuss their triumphs and setbacks in the entertainment industry. TTLA Scholarship Event Honors Future Early Childhood Educators
CSUDH honored nearly 150 new scholarship recipients in the Toros Teach LA (TTLA) program during a ceremony on Oct. 2 hosted by the College of Education and the College of Health, Human Services and Nursing. The nearly $1 million in scholarships, announced earlier this year, provide critical financial support for students already working in the child development sector to get their teaching credential, undergraduates in child development or liberal studies, and graduate students who want to pursue a career in early childhood education. Hispanic Serving Institutions – HSIs – are colleges and universities where Hispanic students make up at least 25% of the full-time equivalent student body, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
