In partnership with International Trade Education Programs (ITEP) and Los Angeles Harbor College, California State University, Dominguez Hills will help nearly 400 local at-risk students discover global careers possibilities during the “Fourth Annual GPS Your Future” on Friday, October 11.
Established in 1999, the nonprofit ITEP connects the classroom to the international trade business community in order to develop career-ready, college-prepared high school students. ITEP’s success in developing a strong student body is evidenced in an 85 percent average high school graduation rate for students in its program. Working in partnership with industry and educators, ITEP helps young people “think globally, and earn locally.”
CSU Dominguez Hills has had a long-standing partnership with ITEP, including campus representation on the board for its Carson High School academy, support of its college shadow program, and through participation in its internship program providing paid internships to ITEP academy students for the past several summers. Additionally for the past three years, CSU Dominguez Hills has hosted and sponsored GPS Your Future.

This is a critical program that brings much needed awareness to students from throughout our region about industries that our important to our economy,” said David Gamboa, CSU Dominguez Hills director of government and community relations.
During GPS Your Future, students involved in ITEP academies at Barstow, Cabrillo, Carson, Gardena, Phineas Banning (Wilmington, CA) and San Pedro High Schools will have the opportunity to explore global careers and various educational/career pathways through an ITEP alumni-led orientation, employer exhibits and breakout sessions led by global industry professionals. Representatives of small and large organizations in the transportation, logistics, engineering, environmental services, fashion, finance, law, and security (partial list) industries will share their perspectives on the “Road to Success” during the exhibit and breakout sessions.
New to the event is a project-based learning (PBL) activity for student attendees that will encourage career/industry exploration. The project will satisfy current “Common Core” teaching standards.
