Author and CSUDH Department of English faculty member Laura Warrell has found that much of her writing revolves around a similar theme. “Everyone is interested in certain aspects of living, which keep showing up in their work,” she says. “I'm noticing that my patterns are about a desire to connect, a desire to have intimacy, and the blockages and challenges around that, whether they're societal or internal.” That striving for connection is one of the major themes of Sweet, Soft, Plenty Rhythm, Warrell's debut novel, which was published Sept. 27 by Pantheon Press. “These are characters who are trying to connect. Physics Student Wins 2022 CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement
When CSUDH physics major Jeisson Pulido was a child growing up in Las Cruces, an impoverished neighborhood in Bogotá, Colombia, he used to stare up at the stars in wonder. He never imagined that he would one day be working with the European Space Agency (ESA), helping to create a cutting-edge research satellite. “The resources in my neighborhood schools were very low,” he remembers. “I didn't receive a lot of education in math or physics, just the basics. I was never able to see myself studying in college or pursuing a science degree, because of the lack of funding in my schools. President Parham Addresses CSUDH’s Present and Future at Fall Convocation
CSUDH President Thomas A. Parham welcomed the Toro Nation back to campus for the fall semester with a stirring, wide-ranging speech at the 2021 Fall Convocation on Sept. 8. The event was held at the University Theatre, and was livestreamed on YouTube for those unable to attend in person. Provost Michael Spagna opened the proceedings with some light-hearted remarks about reassimilating onto campus after 18 months in COVID-19 seclusion, joking that he never wanted to use the words “unprecedented” or “pivot” again. Michael Spagna Named Provost, VP for Academic Affairs at CSU Dominguez Hills
Following a national search, Willie J. Hagan, president of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), has appointed Michael E. Spagna as provost and vice president for academic affairs effective July 1, 2017. Since 2008, Spagna has been dean of the Michael D. Eisner College of Education at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where he is known as a strong collaborator with extensive experience and diverse perspectives. At CSUN, he cultivated a relationship with Michael and Jane Eisner resulting in a $7 million gift to the university's Center for Teaching and Learning, where Spagna served as executive director for seven years. “As he articulated during his ...
