California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) will host a livestream production of “A Surge of Power,” an original student-written theatre production that gives voice to the rising plea for social equity. The show will run March 11, 12, 13, and 16 at 7 p.m. “A Surge of Power” is one result of the pledge the Department of Theatre and Dance made last summer in support of the Black Lives Matter movement to tell stories that denounce racism and bigotry, and foster empathy for all people. The Africana Studies Department is hosting a Zoom watch party and discussion of “The Big Picture: A Race for America,” an Al Jazeera English documentary focused on private funding from foundations and its impact on Black lives through the pandemic, social protests, and politics. The film includes Donna Nicol, associate professor and chair of Africana Studies, who served as an expert panelist during the film. Male Success Alliance Receives $100,000 Grant from Kaiser Permanente
(Carson, Ca.) The Male Success Alliance (MSA) at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has received $100,000 from Kaiser Permanente as part of $8.15 million in grants awarded to 40 nonprofit and community-based organizations across the nation for programing that addresses systemic racism. Kaiser announced the funding on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as part of a $25 million commitment the nonprofit health system made in June 2020 to promote health equity and address racism-driven stresses that lead to poor health outcomes.
