More than 77 students got resume advice during the Career Center's Resume Clinic on Thursday, Oct. 17. The center tried a new format this year, and scheduled students in two sessions. Each session included a resume writing workshops led by Sherron Hawkins of Enterprise Holdings followed by group critiques in which two to five students sat with one of the 13 employer volunteers as he or she gave an evaluation of each students' resume. According to student population data for the California State University system, more than 70 percent of CSU students and their families would be eligible for Medi-Cal or government subsidies under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the federal healthcare reform law commonly referred to as ObamaCare that requires that all legal U.S. residents have health insurance by Jan. 1, 2014 or pay a penalty. Thousands of Spanish-speaking families attended the Educación: Feria Es El Momento (The Moment is Now: Education Fair) held on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills on Oct. 5 to learn about the many educational possibilities in California. Women and Philanthropy: Mentors, Students Develop Strong Bonds
Several participants in the Women and Philanthropy (W&P) group at California State University, Dominguez Hills reunited during the organization's annual fall student-mentor mixer held in the Loker Student Union on Sept. 18. The event was also an opportunity for new and potential participants to meet and discover details about the program. Founded by Shirley Smith, the wife of former mayor of Carson and past member of university advisory boards Gilbert Smith, the organization is dedicated to mentorship between women who are successful professionals and those who are students at the university.
