LaTeira Haynes, a graduate of California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) single subject credential program, has been named a Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) 2015-16 “Rookie of the Year” teacher for her skill in preparing effective instruction and procedures, and providing a positive classroom learning environment for her students. Haynes, who was enrolled in CSUDH's Transition to Teaching program, follows in the footsteps of fellow Toros who have been honored recently for their teaching excellence. ‘Promise Zone’ Designation Opens Door for CSUDH to Help Reduce Poverty in South L.A.
California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) is one of the higher education partners in the recent designation of South Los Angeles as a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development “Promise Zone,” which opens the door for communities to work more closely with the federal government to help improve educational and economic opportunities and reduce poverty. Three California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) psychology students and their faculty mentors were awarded 1st Place during the International Honors Society in Psychology (Psi Chi) poster session at the Western Psychological Association (WPA) Convention in May 2016. CSUDH’s American Honda Science Opportunity Program Connects CAMS Students with College-level Courses
In 2010 the American Honda Science Opportunity Program (AHSOP) was created through a $100,000 endowment donated to California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) by the American Honda Motor Co., Inc., to provide college-level science courses, textbooks and course materials for CAMS students free of charge. Jasmine Saldivar sat in the Loker Student Union eating and talking with a fellow Toro, until she was interrupted by a classmate who asked, “Is this your sister?” “Um, no, this is my mom,” said Jasmine, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) on May 20. She was a bit surprised by the question. Her mother, Manuela Aguilar, a current CSUDH political science major, was not surprised by the question. Whether it was an ear-shattering whistle from a fellow graduate sitting close by, or the thunderous cheers of a group of friends and family in the stands clad in the same colored T-shirt, the reading of each graduate's name during California State University, Dominguez Hills' (CSUDH) commencement ceremonies elicited unique responses that could be shared by the entire Class of 2016.
