Women’s Business Conference Inspires, Informs and Connects Entrepreneurs

Nearly 2,000 women (and several men) who either are small business owners or are considering becoming one filled the Loker Student Union at California State University, Dominguez Hills for the 2014 Connecting Women to Power Business Conference on June 20. The capacity crowd was on hand to gain invaluable tips on a variety of topics facing small business owners, including how to build a feasible budget, business promotion and marketing, winning government contracts, and how venture capital could help spur growth. Fulbright Student Program Offers Experience of a Lifetime

“This experience may take you out of your comfort zone, but it will definitely change you and shape you for the better.” With that, Fulbright alumni ambassador Rebecca Littman-Smith inspired a classroom full of students at California State University, Dominguez Hills who are interested in applying for the prestigious Fulbright U.S. student program. Symposium Paves Way For First-Of-Its-Kind Japanese American Incarceration Archives Project

A two-day CSU planning grant symposium kicked off an ambitious and first-of-its-kind project to digitize and create a one-stop website for collections relating to the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. The event—hosted by the CSU Dominguez Hills Archives and Special Collections Department in collaboration with archives divisions at CSU Fresno, CSU Northridge, CSU Fullerton, CSU Sacramento and San Jose State—brought together numerous archivists, scholars and technical consultants to share their knowledge of Japanese American history and expectations on how a collaborative digital repository can serve students and scholars alike. Students Journey to Four Corners of the World With the Help of Scholarships

Six California State University, Dominguez Hills students will have the chance to travel and study in a new corner of the world after being awarded scholarships to help fund their international travel opportunities during the 2014-2015 academic year. Of those six, four were awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, a prestigious grant offered through the U.S. State Department that provides the financial means for a student to study abroad.
