Dear Campus Community, It is with great sadness I write to inform you that two of our students, Mr. Joseph Labori and Ms. Vanessa Carrisoza, both in their second year at CSU Dominguez Hills, died Tuesday night in Torrance when their car was struck head-on by another vehicle. The University has been in contact with the families this morning to extend condolences and to offer assistance in their time of need. The families currently are finalizing plans for a joint memorial service and we will update the campus as details become available. Carnegie Fellowship Supports College of Education Professor’s Work in Africa
Irene Osisioma, associate professor of teacher education at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has been awarded a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship. Funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and managed by the nonprofit Institute of International Education, the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship facilitates engagement between scholars born in Africa who are now based in the United States or Canada and scholars in Africa on mutually beneficial academic activities. International Study Expands Student’s Horizons
For CSU Dominguez Hills student Laura Huerta, getting the opportunity to live in another country was something she had always wanted to do. It was more than a bucket list wish, but rather an experience that fit with her career goals in international business. Last year, through California State University International Programs (CSU IP) and financial assistance from the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, Huerta fulfilled her goal. ‘Kupe and the Corals’ Children’s Book Inspired by Biology Professor’s Research
When children finish reading “Kupe and the Corals,” author Jacqueline L. Padilla-Gamiño, an assistant biology professor at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), hopes they understand that “we're all connected” to life in the ocean and that all living things “need to be careful with one another.” “Kupe and the Corals” (Taylor Trade Publishing, August 2014) is written for children 8 to 12 years old. It is the story of Kupe, a boy on a voyage to discover and learn about the coral reef in the coastal waters near his home in Tahiti and its connection to a host of sea animals.
