Speaking between news broadcasts from Miami on March 17, Univision anchor Ilia Calderón shared her life story, reflections on overcoming barriers, and words of wisdom with the CSUDH community. Calderón was the featured speaker for the Presidential Distinguished Lecture Series, a program which invites prominent public figures to discuss their experiences within the context of society's most pressing issues. CSUDH Bulletin Takes Honors at College Journalism Awards
By Gabriel Gomez, Bulletin Staff Reporter CSUDH's student newspaper, the Bulletin, has won six California College Media Association (CCMA) 2022 Excellence in Student Media Awards. The awards were announced at the Associated Collegiate Press Spring National College Media Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Long Beach, with students representing journalism schools from across the nation in attendance. CSUDH Associate Dean of International Education and Senior International Officer Hamoud Salhi discusses the underlying geopolitical causes that have led to the current Russia-Ukraine conflict. Salhi specializes in international politics and comparative politics with an emphasis on the Middle East and Northern Africa, terrorism and counterterrorism, and political change in the Third World. Source: Long Beach Press-Telegram The Cal State Dominguez Hills art gallery will launch its first exhibit since the coronavirus pandemic began, with the afrofuturism-and funk-inspired work of South Central artist Lauren Halsey going on display Saturday, March 12. Halsey incorporates architecture, and found, fabricated and handmade objects into her art, which is inspired by funk and afrofuturism. Indeed, the theme of her latest exhibition, which runs until Dec. 10 at Cal State Dominguez Hills, is “funkified placemaking” and afrofuturism, according to the University Art Gallery.
