When Paola Carbajal-Kerr says, “I'm proud to be a Toro,” she means it. The CSUDH alumna and current residential life coordinator for University Housing has been studying or working on campus for 15 years–she joined the Toro staff right after graduating from the university. “I worked in Student Affairs as an undergraduate student programmer for the Multicultural Center (now Multicultural Affairs),” she says. “I had so many great mentors at the time that I decided to join their ranks in helping to support students!” In her current position, Carbajal-Kerr leads the programmatic efforts for students living in the Residence Hall, as well as supervising the work of the student staff in the ... Parent Leadership Academy Fosters Support for First-Gen Families
For the families of first-generation college students, universities can seem unfamiliar and inaccessible. New terminologies and processes can alienate students and their parents, who want to be able to provide support and guidance to their children. Two faculty members at CSUDH are trying to change that dynamic through the Parent Leadership Academy–a forum through which parents can connect, share knowledge, and navigate CSUDH together. On Saturday, March 5, leaders of the Filipino community and local dignitaries will join California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) faculty and representatives of the university's Gerth Archives and Special Collections to celebrate the launch of the CSUDH Filipino American Digital Archive (FADA).
