Meals 4 Toros Program Distributes Thanksgiving Dinners to Students in Need
Responding to the needs of many in the Toro Nation, the staff of CSUDH's Basic Needs Office distributed Thanksgiving meals to students on Friday, Nov. 19. The event was part of the university's new Meals 4 Toros program, which is aimed at providing holiday dinners for CSUDH students in need. The program is a joint effort between the Office of Development, the Basic Needs Office, and Campus Dining. It was the brainchild of Andre Khachaturians, CSUDH's senior director of annual campaigns and advancement services. CSUDH has been recognized nationally for its sustainability efforts in the recently published 2021 Sustainable Campus Index. A publication of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the Sustainable Campus Index recognizes innovative and high-impact initiatives from colleges and universities that submitted a Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) report in the most recent calendar year. Chemistry Student Receives 2021 CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement
California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) undergraduate Berenice Rojas is no stranger to hard work. Its value was instilled in her at a young age, as her Mexican immigrant parents toiled in the Yuma, Arizona sun as farmworkers to provide for Berenice and her two brothers. “They would start working at five or six in the morning,” says Rojas. “They would work all day, then come home at about eight at night.” Today, the third-year Toro student is doing plenty of hard work of her own, pursuing a bachelor's degree in chemistry at CSUDH.
